SFMA (Selective Functional Movement Assessment)
“TREAT THE WHY, NOT THE WHAT”
Our evaluation process at Pace West Physical Therapy is focused on finding the root of your problem. We are looking for the cause of your problem not just the source of your pain. Often, seemingly unrelated impairments (loss of mobility and or strength) in a remote part of your body contribute to your main complaint of pain. We use the SFMA to evaluate your entire movement system and uncover the compensations/adaptations that are contributing to it.
The Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) is a series of 10 full-body movement tests designed to assess fundamental patterns of movement such as bending and squatting in those with known musculoskeletal pain. When the clinical assessment is initiated from the perspective of the movement pattern, the clinician has the opportunity to identify meaningful impairments. They are then addressed with corrective exercises, manual therapy, and functional dry needling.
The ultimate goal is the restoration of your normal pain free movement patterns.
